Pattern and place
I grew up in in Denver, CO. The sweeping landscapes and skylines instilled in me a profound sense of place and an aesthetic appreciation of my surroundings: colors, patterns, textures, the ever-changing sky, the mountains on the horizon, and the historical architecture of the city.
I studied art in Oregon and California, inspired by the rich visual world of endlessly-varied landscapes and urban centers.
My fascination with cities manifests in tile art and quilts (grids), while my obsession with the landscape inspires paintings and quilts about the horizon (stripes). Grids and stripes are among the most basic examples of pattern, which is the basis for all of my work.
In early 2019, my entire household and studio moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands! You can watch this transition unfold though my posts on Instagram.
My professional work includes surface pattern design (at Hoffman California Fabrics), freelance quilt design, teaching workshops in various sewing and design techniques, and private quilt commissions.
