TEXTILE ART
"Evidence" series
Repetition and pattern are central to my work, as is the combining of small units to build a larger image. It gets even more interesting when the pattern begins to break down or go askew. My process for this series involved sewing pieces of fabric together in a series of irregular stripes, slicing through the stripes crosswise, and then reattaching them out of sequence or slightly shifted.
This work emerged during the covid pandemic, and can be read as a breaking down or shifting of unstable foundations. Everything we build is subject to the faults in our foundations. Even microscopic shifts below the surface can have extreme visible effects further on.

Pieced cotton fabric mounted on artist's stretcher bars, ready for wall display. These works are pieced, but not quilted.

Art quilts
Unlike the pieced artwork above, the following are quilts (meaning they are comprised of at least three layers - a top, a back, and batting in between - and are bound, or finished, around the edges.
My exploration of quilting has arisen though my involvement with the Modern Quilting movement. This international community promotes the art and craft of quilt-making with a modern aesthetic, and encourages experimentation with style, color, composition, and technique. My quilts have been exhibited in juried shows, won awards, and have been published in books and magazines.
