This quilt was a gift for my mother-in-law Denise. We bought the tropical batik fabrics together in Hawaii. I love personalizing a quilt to be especially meaningful to the recipient.
There are many special details revealing some of Denise's favorite things: sea turtles, vintage handkerchiefs, chairs, and animal prints. The sky blue fabric with little birds is some upholstery fabric she had always admired.

From Gwen Marston's book "Minimal Quiltmaking II" The overall design for this quilt was inspired by a quilt by Pat Haas called The Fire in My Back.
Denise loved the colors and the slight irregularity of the squares, but requested that I replace the black-and-white band with the tropical leaf fabric from Hawaii. |
